About Us

In a nutshell: There's no store yet.  That's in progress.  Stay tuned.

Our Mission

The mission of the Cooperative is to serve Los Alamos County and surrounding communities by providing fairly priced, wholesome foods and other goods in an ecologically sustainable, socially responsible, and economically appropriate manner. The Co-op will further strive to:

  • emphasize food for people, not just for profit;
  • maintain a high standard of quality for the products it sells;
  • foster the development of northern New Mexican growers and producers through its purchasing policies;
  • employ a democratic and cooperative governance structure and ethical business practices;
  • promote fairness, participation, and empowerment in the workplace and the community;
  • work to encourage and implement appropriate environmental practices;
  • promote awareness about food, nutrition, health, and cooperative values; and
  • be responsive and accountable to the community it serves.

Our Plan

The Los Alamos Cooperative Market will be located at Entrada Business Park in Los Alamos, NM.  Store opening date is still undetermined.  Groundbreaking for the store was celebrated on Friday, June 4.

The Cooperative will be capitalized by lifetime memberships, member loans, and member investment. More than 270 households have signed up as founding lifetime members, and about 170 households have also become charter annual members. Become a member!

The Co-op is incorporated as a "domestic cooperative association" under New Mexico Law. Our Articles of Incorporation became effective February 28, 2007. Our Bylaws were officially adopted in May 2007.  Our Governance Policy was approved July 2009.
